[If there's one thing that Wolfwood had them all fooled about in the beginning, it was his intentions. He knew exactly how to make himself seem like this goofy guy, just a wandering Priest with no plans other than to traverse the dunes finding someone to push the Good Word onto. Meanwhile, everything he did- right down to the moment it happened- was all planned. Even getting "hit" by the van had been planned, as much as he hated that part of the idea. But how else was he supposed to get them to stop without seeming really fucking weird and suspicious about it?
This way, he's a victim, and he's already garnered their sympathy. He's just a Guy, he doesn't mean any harm, etc...he just doesn't know that Vash is already aware of all of that. He knows they're headed right into a trap that Wolfwood was already always going to get them out of.
So when Vash tries to coax him to remain conscious, Wolfwood just sortof...groans in reply. No, you dumbass, I'm dying probably. You gotta get me to the nearest building that looks like it has any signs of life.]
